Why Do Police Ask a Driver If He Has Diabetes in a DUI?

The symptoms of having low blood sugar can mimic those of alcohol intoxication – confusion, slurred speech and delayed reflexes.  The sugar in alcohol can trigger such symptoms, which not only can cause a driver to weave while driving, but fail the field sobriety tests often given in a DUI investigation.  It can also alter the rate at which alcohol is processed in the body, leading to unreliable blood alcohol content measurements.  For more information about diabetes and DUI, click on the following link.
