What Is the Effect of an Intellectual Disability on Sentencing?

Being disabled intellectually can be a bar to sentence of the death penalty, but can it be a mitigating factor in sentencing for lesser crimes?  What about diminished capacity for sentencing?  After all, if one has a lower than average intelligence quotient (IQ), that means he or she may not recognize the nature or the consequences of one’s conduct, right?  Will that condition help in receiving a more lenient sentence?  Click on the following link to find out.
