If Granting Prop 47 Relief, Must Judge Lower Total Sentence?

There is a widely held assumption by many that if a judge grants relief under Proposition 47 to resentence a person from a felony to a misdemeanor, that the total sentence must be lower.  After all, a felony is more serious than a misdemeanor.  Moreover, felony sentences are longer in general.  But does relief under Prop 47 guarantee a lower sentence?  The answer may surprise you.  Click on the following link to read about why a longer sentence can be imposed.
